Growth

The growth of our Association cannot simply be measured in the number of people who meet with us on Sunday mornings.  Numerical growth is and always has been the welcome result of doing our ministry well, not an end in and of itself.

All congregations seem to want to grow, but not all of them want to change. I believe that the UUA has a responsibility to lead congregations towards those things that will result in growth, such as providing an ever more visible and effective presence in the public sphere.

Our work in Arizona and New Orleans are good examples of how we as an Association can make a selfless stand for Justice in the world while at the same time increasing our own visibility. Only through genuine good work in the world might our individual congregations benefit.

The UUA and its districts also have a responsibility to provide individual congregations with resources and education not only to increase visitors to services, but to keep them coming back.
